The New Bedford Whaling Museum's Moby-Dick Marathon is an annual non-stop reading of Herman Melville's literary masterpiece. The multi-day program of entertaining activities and events is presented every January. Admission to the Marathon is free.

You might be interested in this account of Herman Melville's time on Staten Island where his brother Thomas was Governor of the old sailor's home at Snug Harbor and how this period in his life influenced the creation of Moby Dick. It's from an art piece that mixes fact and fiction called "The Forgotten History of Staten Island."
